Ever wondered what violations can cause you to lose your driver's license? Well, take a look at these, because if you lose it, you'll have to take driving school all over again!

As you may know, the Chinese driver's license operates using a points based system. When these points are all lost, then the license is revoked. Events such as smoking or using the phone while driving can cost you 2 points, speeding or failing to stop for pedestrians costs 3 points, and running a red light can cost 4 points.

However, there are now some traffic violations that can cost drivers all 12 points from their license, making it revoked for the year, immediately.

1) Drunk Driving

Driving while influenced by alcohol, will cost you 12 points from your license, and a 2000 RMB fine, as well as a possible 15 days in jail.

2) Obscured or Not Visible License Plate

Covering or defacing your license plate, will cause you to lose all 12 points from your license. Make sure your license plate is not accidentally covered by dirt, mud, etc.

3) Hit and Run

If you are responsible for a hit and run accident, all 12 points will be deducted from your license, even if you are not charged criminally.

4) Speeding over 50%

If you are driving more than 50% over the current speed limit, you will lose all 12 points on your license, causing it to be revoked.

5) Fake Plates

If you have fake plates on your vehicle, you will lose all 12 points on your license, causing it to be revoked.

6) Illegal Driving on a vehicle you're not Licensed for

If you are driving a vehicle that you are not licensed for, or allowed to drive, you will lose 12 points on your license. This can mean driving a a car on a motorbike license, or driving a bus on a car license.

7) Highway Stops

If you stop on the highway to let a passenger in or out of yor vehicle, you will lose all 12 points on your license.

8) Wrong Way on the Highway

If you are driving on the opposite side of the road, while on the highway, you will be putting other drivers in danger. Due to this, you will lose 12 points on your license.

9) Driving While Tired

If you are driving while tired, it is similar to driving while intoxicated by alcohol or drugs. The effects of being tired, put you and other people at risk, and if caught you will lose 12 points off of your license.

While some of these may be common sense, it's always good to know an extent of how you could lose your license. While you may see these happen in China, or even in your home country, it's important for you to try to be a model citizen.
